Leelanau Peninsula; the “Up North” you come to see. |
|
June 26, 2008 Lake Leelanau was full of boats this afternoon. It was a great sight to see; all were having fun! Everyone complains about gas prices; but nobody cares. It is summer! We will drive...we will boat...we will enjoy life!
June 23, 2008 I miss real lettuce. I hate these mixed weeds that some restaurants try to pass off as lettuce.
June 21, 2008 Not all Malted Milk Balls are the same. The Chocolate in Brach’s brand melts at a lower temperature, making it a superior malted milk ball. Skip over the cheap versions; they are not worth it.
June 18, 2008 Normal crowds seem to be in Leland.
June 11, 2008 My new CD is now available. Piano Reflections IV, by Rick Lahmann, is finally here. Call (877) 256-7820 to order yours. There is no postage charged on CD orders; just the CD and Michigan sales tax.
June 4, 2008 The Leland Wine and Food Festival will happen on June 14. Check here for details.
June 1, 2008 Attention to a number of food establishments… “cheese is not just a garnish”, especially with Mexican food. Now I realize that real Mexican food does not have much cheese, but we Americans expect “Tex-Mex”, and this means that cheese is not just a garnish.
May 27, 2008 Leland Harbor has been dredged.
May 10, 2008 Its cherry blossom time!
May 5, 2008 The tulips have joined the daffodils. ...and the Trillium are everywhere.
April 27, 2008 The yellow flowers are starting. The daffodils, and even the forsythia are in bloom.
April 14, 2008 Businesses in Leland and Fishtown are beginning to open for the 2008 season. By Mother’s Day weekend, most businesses in Leland will be open most of the time.
March 19, 2008 Many of the bars and restaurants are installing wide screen televisions. In some of these locations, having a television ruins the ambiance; but the bigger problem is that most of these establishments are not paying for the wide screen signal...so they just stretch out the picture, making everything look unnatural.
Twice in August, I had the opportunity to eat at Omena’s new Knot, Just a Bar. The nachos were fantastic. On my second visit, I ordered a side of guacamole, which made them even better. I was however, a bit disappointed in learning that the lunch menu, and the dinner menu, are one in the same. There is only one steak on the menu, and it is only a mediocre steak. But they do have an outdoor deck, a large selection of food, and a million dollar view!
July 08, 2007 I had the opportunity to eat at North, located between Glen Arbor and Leland. It was not my first time; I was also there on my birthday last July. Every time I am there, I leave thinking that it was possibly the best meal I have ever had...just like it was when the location was Leelanau County Inn (I miss their exceptional Prime Rib).
